[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_02]: It is Thursday, September 19th.
[00:00:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Today, Broken and Buggy, With millions of dollars lost from an unstable ad platform,
[00:00:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Why isn't Met Up prioritizing?
[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Fixing its site.
[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The new YouTube placement marketers will love but consumers will hate.
[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Google Business Profiles are being suspended on mass.
[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And the world's most underwhelming logo change is rolled out.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm Tod Maffin.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_02]: That's ahead today in Digital Marketing.
[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_02]: So our agency, EngageQ provides engagement and moderation for clients.
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_02]: So one of our most important tools is a third party engagement platform that brings
[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_02]: in comments and mentions from Facebook, Threads, Instagram, TikTok and a bunch of other platforms.
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But for more than a month now, Facebook's API has had a huge bug.
[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Third party platforms have been unable to reply to threaded comments.
[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_02]: In other words, replies to replies which actually happens a lot in this business.
[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_02]: A month.
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_02]: It's been broken for a month.
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Met acclaims, it's working on it but honestly who knows?
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, it's not just the organic side.
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Marketers have been reporting an increasing number of bugs on Metas ad platform.
[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And to add buyers now say, Metas automated tools are so broken.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Some days, it burns their budgets.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Marketing brew covered this in detail today.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Several media buyers shared their struggles with the platform with some opting to avoid AI powered
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_02]: ad tools altogether.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_02]: One CMO of Digital Marketing Agency, MHI Media, faced a costly glitch last month.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Instead of targeting younger audiences, mostly on Instagram for a fashion brand campaign,
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Metas automated ad tools shifted to an older 65 plus audience.
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Mostly on Facebook resulting in a high five figure loss for his client.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_02]: As a result, the CMO says he shifted away from Metas advantage plus AI advertising tool
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_02]: in some cases, opting to manually control campaigns to achieve the same performance
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_02]: they once had on the platform.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Other buyers echo these frustrations reporting frequent bugs like ads not loading
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_02]: and budgets being burned through in hours.
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Meta has logged at least a dozen disruptions to its ad tools since Memorial Day with four
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_02]: marked as major.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_02]: The tech giant though denies an uptick in issues.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Several buyers told marketing brew that Metas support team hit by 2023's year of efficiency
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_02]: has not been particularly helpful in resolving issues either.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_02]: In response, some buyers are reallocating budgets to tick-talk influencers.
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_02]: But some say that for large scale spending is still no place like Meta.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_02]: As consumers swap channel surfing for scroll surfing,
[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_02]: YouTube is stepping up as a major player in the TV game.
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_02]: YouTube now claims 10% of daily TV viewing time in the US,
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_02]: making it the top platform for time spent watching TV,
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_02]: according to recent data from Nielsen.
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_02]: The platform took the lead over Disney and B.C. Universal and Netflix.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_02]: YouTube is the first streaming platform tracked by Nielsen to exceed this daily share of viewership.
[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_02]: E-marketing reports today that the platforms growth may be attributed to a surge in sports
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_02]: viewership content.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_02]: YouTube CEO told the financial times that in the second quarter of this year,
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_02]: sports content alone reached 35 billion hours.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a 45% increase year over year.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_02]: On the other hand, social media is eating TV's lunch,
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_02]: particularly when it comes to Gen Z.
[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Social media uses on the rise across all generations.
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_02]: But Gen Z is leading the way with a projected almost 8% growth this year,
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_02]: compared to just under 2% for the general population.
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Today, E-marketing has some analysis on the three key ways Gen Z is leading social media usage.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_02]: First, Instagram usage.
[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Gen Z is set to surpass millennials on Instagram with forecasts predicting more than 52%
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_02]: million Gen Z users in the US by next year.
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Or then three quarters of Gen Z will be active on Instagram next year,
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_02]: compared with 70% of millennials and users aged 18 to 24 will spend an average of 45 minutes per day on Instagram.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_02]: That's more than any other age group.
[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Second, Reddit.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Gen Z is embracing Reddit with logged in Gen Z users expected to grow more than 20% in the US reaching
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_02]: 18 million.
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Or then a quarter of the Gen Z population will be ready users this year,
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_02]: increasing to 40% by 2028.
[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_02]: It's millennials that currently dominate Reddit,
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_02]: but their share will decline over the next few years,
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_02]: giving way to Gen Z.
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And third, Facebook relevance.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Gen Z is the only generation to increase their usage of Facebook,
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: with projections predicting an 8% rise this year reaching nearly 34 million users.
[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_02]: This year, nearly half of the Gen Z population will be a Facebook user.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Google is cracking down on trash and dumpster listings,
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Search engine roundtable reporting today that several businesses are voicing concerns in the Google Business Profiles forums about their profiles being suspended.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It appears that Google is mass-disabling business profiles across specific industries,
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_02]: including dumpster services, garage door companies, and personal injury lawyers.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02]: So if you work in or manage any brands in these sectors,
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_02]: you may want to review your listing,
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and if you're affected to consider appealing the decision,
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_02]: wait any disruptions to your business.
[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_02]: For digital marketers aiming to target an engaged audience,
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_02]: podcasts have emerged as the most trusted source of news among US registered voters,
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_02]: according to a new survey from Vox, Topeka.
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_02]: 85% of respondents trust podcasts more than any other news and information source,
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_02]: including newspapers, TV, radio, and social media.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Almost 80% of voters agree that podcasts encourage them to explore news topics further,
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_02]: while more than 60% believe these shows can shift their opinions on various issues.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: How many registered voters are tuning in?
[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Nearly half of those surveyed, listen to at least one podcast per week.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_02]: One third say they consume five or more episodes per week.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_02]: We have the full report in today's email newsletter,

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And finally, PayPal has a new logo, which is giving millennial minimalism
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and may or may not have been created in Microsoft Word.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The redesign as they're calling it,
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Mark just pretty stark contrast to its previous logo,
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_02]: which if you remember featured a dynamic slant,
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_02]: two shades of blue and the prominent PayPal peas.
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_02]: PayPal says this change will help distinguish it from the sea of
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: mint, tech brands that use blue tones.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Now it just looks like the basic black aerial font.
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_02]: The CMO probably paid like $100,000 for this reprint by the way.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Would you run an ad if the CPM were one dollar?
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, if you're trying to reach marketing decision makers,
