[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It is Wednesday, August 21st. Today, Want to tank Your Sales, Tell Bier is Your Product Uses AI.

[00:00:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Amazon's Big announcement for sellers, Why audience recommendations are missing from Google Ads this week?

[00:00:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And decrypting reddits, latest hires, Are they about to join the Search Ads Party?

[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm Tod Maffin, that's ahead today in Digital Marketing.

[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Don't believe the hype, labeling a product as AI powered might actually end up hurting your sales.

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_03]: This from some new research published in the Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management,

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Researchers showed participants the same products but with different descriptions.

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_03]: One was called High Tech, and the other used the term Artificial Intelligence.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_03]: In every case, people were less likely to buy the product that mentioned AI.

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_03]: So why the hesitation?

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_03]: The study looked at how people viewed products with different levels of risk.

[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_03]: For example, household appliances with AI were seen as low risk, while self-driving cars

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_03]: and AI powered medical diagnosis services were considered high risk.

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_03]: In both groups, most people didn't want to buy the products.

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_03]: The study says, This is because people hold AI to a higher standard and expect it to be perfect

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_03]: when AI makes mistakes.

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Trust in the brand and the product is quickly lost.

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_03]: There are two kinds of trusts that play a role in people's perception of AI.

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_03]: One is cognitive trust, which is about expecting AI to be free from human error.

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_03]: The other is emotional trust, which is based on limited knowledge and understanding of AI

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_03]: and is more closely tied to brand trust.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_03]: People's fear of the unknown and pop culture portrayals of AI as villains also contribute to mistrust.

[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Companies lack of transparency about how AI handles personal data certainly doesn't help.

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_03]: The researchers say to ease fears, marketers, and copywriters should explain how their AI is helping the consumer

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_03]: rather than just using it as a buzzword.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Amazon just made returns easier for customers and cheaper for sellers.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_03]: The company now lets sellers offer refunds without asking customers to send back the item.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_03]: This new program is called fulfillment by Amazon Returnless Resolutions.

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Sellers using Amazon's fulfillment services can use the program.

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_03]: It cuts out the hassle and cost of handling returns.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Customers get to keep the item and still get a refund, but not all products are eligible.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Some items like hazardous goods or those that cost over $75 cannot be part of the company.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_03]: The company is a program.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_03]: As for who can use it, only customers and sellers in good standing with Amazon can use returnless resolutions.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_03]: If a customer has a history of abusing returns, they might not be eligible.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_03]: In that case, the item would still need to be sent back to Amazon.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_03]: The company says it made this change to make returns more convenient for customers and cheaper for sellers.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_03]: This program could especially be helpful for international sellers,

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_03]: and those with low cost items.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Amazon is not charging extra for the program, and says it can help sellers avoid other returns related fees.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_03]: You may have noticed that Google has removed audience recommendations from the Insights tab in its ads manager,

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_03]: preventing marketers from using automated suggestions for targeting specific audiences.

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_03]: But don't worry, this is a bug quoting Jenny Marvin from Google.

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_03]: The quote, audience Insights is not being removed.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_03]: The team is aware of an issue that caused this reporting this top showing in some accounts and is working to address it.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Industry blogs yesterday reported the absence of this feature, which meant advertisers would have to manually pick their audience segments,

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_03]: which takes more time.

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But Google says not to worry, it should be back soon.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Reddit just hired a former Google executive to lead its ad product team.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Joy TV today spent 11 years at Google working on product listing ads and dynamic shopping ads.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_03]: This suggests Reddit is serious about building a search ads business.

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Reddit's users often search for answers on the platform, and the company sees this as a lucrative opportunity for advertisers.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_03]: CEO Steve Huffman highlighted the potential for serving ads against search results,

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_03]: noting that users have explicit intentions when searching.

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Reddit is gaining momentum with contextual keyword targeting, which lets advertisers link specific keywords to their brands or products.

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Huffman has been open about the company's intentions to build a search ads business.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_03]: The company is hiring more engineers and product managers with search experience,

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_03]: and says it plans to start testing new search results pages powered by AI later this year.

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_03]: TikTok is still adding users in Europe despite reports of slowing growth worldwide.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_03]: The app now reports it has 150 million monthly active users in the EU, up from 134 million last August and 142 million in February.

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Europe has become more important for TikTok as it faces a possible ban in the US.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_03]: The app's Chinese owners are fighting a sell-off bill in court, but if it passes, TikTok could lose 170 million American users.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_03]: So to counter this, TikTok is launching new EU programs including in-stream shopping and creator incentives.

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_03]: TikTok has a billion active users worldwide with its main markets being the US, Europe, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, and Vietnam.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_03]: But it's banned in India where other social apps are growing fast.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Losing the US market would be a major blow, so TikTok is trying to soften the impact by focusing on other regions.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_03]: People will not wait for your website to load and new data from Forbes advisor found that these days users give up after just 8 seconds on average.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_03]: 38% will wait between 7 and 10 seconds for a site to load only 24% will wait for more than 11 seconds.

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_03]: A slow loading website can be costly, nearly half of users, 48%, will move on to the next search results of a site takes too long to load.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_03]: This is especially true for lesser-known brands as users are more likely to be patient with well-known brands like Amazon.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Google has long emphasized the importance of fast load times since 2010 the company is recommended that sites load in under 2 seconds.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_03]: In 2017, Google found that the likelihood of users bouncing from a site increases by 32% when load times jump from 1 second to 3 seconds.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Kids are getting online at younger ages to understand what apps they use, custodio surveyed 180,000 US families with kids aged 7 to 18.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_03]: The results show that among 7 to 9 year olds, roblox and YouTube are the clear winners.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_03]: But some also use X and Reddit, which could expose them to explicit content.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_03]: The study says it's likely they're not actively using these sites on a daily basis, but rather using them to get information about games.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Still, parents might not know that they have these installed or haven't thought to block them.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_03]: As kids get older, their app preferences change.

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Among 10 to 12 year olds, roblox and YouTube are still popular, but social apps like TikTok and Snapchat start to gain traction.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_03]: For older teens, 16 to 18 years old, social apps become even more popular.

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Last day of this classified ad, saved time and money by ditching multiple social media tools,

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So since I was a kid I've had in Somniacronic and Somniacronic in last 15 years I've been on a particular drug to help it.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_03]: And this drug works, it works really well. But it has two horrible side effects. One is it makes me a zombie in the morning.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll sleep like 12 hours straight and at night after I take the particular medication, it makes me crave carbs.

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I would eat an entire loaf of white bread just standing in the kitchen. Those of you who are on this drug know exactly what I'm talking about describing it.

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, I started a new one that my doctor has given me.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_03]: And it worked great. I fell asleep wonderfully, but then I woke up at 6.

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Which I'm told is what? Like that's a normal people's amount of sleep for someone my age.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_03]: But I don't know what I'm going to do if I keep waking up at 6 in the morning.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess get some work done earlier. But what do people do? Can I get a newspaper subscription I can?

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I wanted the New York Times daily, but they don't ship it over here.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, that's a whole new world. But I like it. Anyway, that's it for today. See you tomorrow.

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Take care and see you in the next episode.
